Istanbul to celebrate Halloween with Dutch horror movies

Istanbul Pera Museum’s Pera Film is set to celebrate the scary Halloween season by screening a series of Dutch horror movies throughout the month of October.

The event will screen “De Lift” (The Elevator), which was released in 1983 and distributed worldwide by Warner Brothers. The Dutch press has hailed the growth of new horror films from the country as “Nederhorror.”

Since the early 2000s, there has been an increase in the number of horror films that have been produced in the Netherlands and a number of horror film festivals have been organized in recent years.

In collaboration with the Dutch Film Institute EYE, Pera Museum’s Film will present a special selection of contemporary Dutch horror films with such as Two Eyes Staring, which won Best Film Award and Best Screenplay during the international film festival Fantasporto in 2011. The same year, the American actress and producer Charlize Theron bought the rights of the film for an American remake.
