British singer-songwriter Boy George will be in Istanbul on Friday night to perform at the 360istanbul Stage as part of his Flashback Series.
A singer-songwriter and successful DJ, Boy George was part of the English New Romantic movement which emerged in the early 1980s and helped give androgyny an international stage with the success of the Culture Club. His music is often classified as blue-eyed soul and was influenced by rhythm and blues, as well as reggae.
His 1990s and 2000s-era solo music, meanwhile, had glam influences from figures such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop. He was also the founder and lead singer of Jesus Loves You between 1989 and 1992.
Yet, even as the blemish on his career is fading away, no one can forget Boy George’s New Romantic movement that once saw him as lead singer of the Culture Club, crooning to “Karma Chameleon”.
In December 2009, Boy George had a successful run of concerts at the Leicester Square Theatre in London’s West End.
Boy George will be accompanied by DJ Marc Vedo for his Istanbul date.
