The First Ice Museum of Europe Will be opened in Istanbul on April 23rd, 2010.
Magic Ice Istanbul will be the world’s first permanent ice museum which is located in a warm climate country, will be opened in Istanbul on April 23 National Sovereignty & Children’s Day.
The “Magic Ice” museum is located inside the Forum Istanbul shopping mall in Bayrampasa district near the Bus Station (Otogar), next to the Turquazoo Aquarium. The museum is built by Norwegians and is planned to be opened on the Children’s Day national holiday on April 23rd.
The indoor museum covers a 1,400 square meter area and will stay open all year round and the temperature inside will be constantly around minus 5 degrees Celsius (about 23 Fahrenheit) so at the entrance you’ll be given special coats.
Magic Ice Turkey Director General Oddruar Olsen told reporters on Thursday that the idea to open such a museum came from Scandinavian countries. Noting that there would be 34 ice statues in the museum, Olsen said that the theme of the museum will change every six months. Olsen added that the cost of the project was 3.5 million Euros. Adding that the museum would be inaugurated on Turkey’s National Sovereignty & Children’s Day, Olsen said that the visitors would be provided Eskimo clothes while entering the museum.
70 tons of ice was brought from Sweden for the statues, while the walls and the tunnels of the museum were made with 100 tons of ice provided from Istanbul. Designers of Ice Hotel in Sweden created the concept of the museum. Norwegian Lotofen Trading Company fulfilled the project, while Turkish engineers made infrastructure, heating and cooling systems of the museum.
Eurovision song contest winner Alexander Rybak is invited for the opening of the museum at Forum Istanbul on 23 April!
Alexander Rybak, the winner of the Eurovision 2009, will perform at the first ice museum “Magic Ice” opening, and meet with his Turkish fans. The tickets can be obtained from Biletix. Forum Istanbul visitors can win the tickets when they shop 150 TL on 5-22 April. The visitors who bring their shopping receipts to the info desks will get their tickets. Forum Bonus Card owners have their tickets with 100 TL shopping receipt.
Normal entrance for adults will cost 20 TL (about 10 Euros) and 15 Lira for children.
