Hagia Sophia was the most visited historical site in Turkey last year, according to the latest Tourism data.
Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace and Ephesus were the highest visited historical sites in Turkey by both domestic and foreign tourists last year.
According to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Cultural Assets and Museums Directorate, Hagia Sophia Museum was visited by 3,345,347 people last year. The Topkapı Palace Museum had 3,334,925 visitors and 1,888,173 foreign and domestic tourists alike visited Ephesus within the year.
Overall, last year a total 28,781,308 tourists visited Turkey’s museums and historical ruins, which brought in 280,206,955 liras in revenue.
Hagia Sophia is a great architectural beauty and an important monument both for Byzantine and for Ottoman Empires. Once a church, later a mosque, and now a museum at the Turkish Republic, Hagia Sophia has always been the precious of its time.
