Istanbul dances to Pharrell Williams hit ‘Happy’ video

Istanbul has joined the ‘Happy’ trend. Inspired by singer and rapper Pharrell Williams, the Istanbul Is Happy video (below) features local people bustin’ a move to the hit song Happy, from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

The American singer Pharrell Williams made the world’s first 24-hour music video with the song. The single is the first single from Williams’ album G.I.R.L. and is also on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. The single, according to Billboard, “became the first single for 57 years to start a third separate run at No. 1.”

Turkish filmmakers have produced several videos with people from Istanbul dancing to the hit single by Pharrell Williams.

The Turkish versions of the video clip includes people dancing in various locations all over Istanbul, both well-known as well as areas around Galata Tower and Grand Bazaar. The video will definitely make you fall in love with Istanbul as well.

The videos were posted to YouTube, where views rocketed from a few hundred to over 16,000, as people shared it on Twitter and Facebook.

Taking their cue from the original Happy video, which was shot in Los Angeles, tribute versions have been popping up from various cities around the world – among them Moscow, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Berlin, Singapore, Dubai, and others. And now, Istanbul has its own version of Happy!
