Turkey has made it through to the Eurovision grand final

The final ten countries have been selected for the Eurovision grand final. Of the nineteen countries which participated in the semifinal on Thursday evening, only ten will go to the finals on Saturday. Ukraine, Croatia, Albania, Iceland, Georgia, Denmark, Swedes, Latvia, Turkey and Portugal can show their performance on Saturday once again.

Mor ve Ötesi were asked about controversy in Turkey about entering a rock song in the Turkish language, and what was their reaction now they had qualified They said “We have been performing together for 13 years now, and it has always been our goal to record an original sound in our home language. Our personal feeling is that if you love a song, the feeling is more important than the lyrics.”The group went on to add that it is a good feeling to be in the Final, as the Turkish delegation have been used to it in the past years.

It is striking that all Scandinavian countries made it to the finals, Norway and Finland got already enough votes for the finals last Tuesday. During the first semifinal all comedy acts, such as Ireland (singing turkey), Estonia (three fat cabaretiers) and Belgium (fantasy language). The pirate act from Latvia have made it through to the final. Just one of the many shock results in an action-packed second semi-final night.

The European public could vote for all nineteen participants, nine with the most votes go to the final. The jury appointed the tenth finalist. Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany and Serbia are already in the finals for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.

The 25 countries in the order below will perform in the Final. The Final of the contest will be taking place on the 24th of May, just like the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.
